Up till the 18th century, amethyst stones were included in the “cardinal gems” along with diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds. Nevertheless, because considerable deposits of amethyst quartz were uncovered in lots of locations, mostly Brazil, it has come down a bit in value over the previous couple centuries. Amethyst stones, for that reason, prevail at every level of quality, from rough crystals to cabochons and beads in casual precious jewelry to expensive and fine gems worth leading dollar in great jewelry collections. Amethyst stones are therefore among the most popular gemstones due to the fact that their relatively low price makes big, brilliantly colored gemstones readily offered for use in reasonably expensive and great jewelry alike.
These appealing gems are mostly discovered in Argentine, Africa, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada and Uruguay. However, the largest quantity amethyst stones are found in the mines of South America. Also, one of the most well-known ranges of amethyst gems, popularly known as ‘Rose-de-France’ belongs to Brazil. Amethyst gemstones turn into yellow color on heating, hence, many industrial jewelry makers use heated amethyst under the name of citrine, which is a popular yellow colored gemstone, to conserve expense.
